Yesterday, a significant incident occurred when a large plastic sheet fell from the top of the State Civic Centre, Kuching, at Jalan Taman Budaya. As a result of strong winds during bad weather the night before, the sheet landed in a garden and impacted a nearby residential property, causing damage to trees, bushes, and potentially affecting the homeowners' safety. This incident has raised serious concerns for pedestrians and vehicle traffic in the area.

In response to this situation, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development, Mr. Morshidi Fredrick, together with senior officers of the ministry, Ms. Jenny Lee and Ms. Molina ak Luhum, Ms. Hajibah binti Bujang, Manager of the State Civic Centre, along with officers from Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR), Mr. Mohamad Haslan bin Abdul Khalik, Senior Principal Assistant Director (Building Assets), and Ts. Liew Kui Khim, Architect, visited the State Civic Centre to assess the situation. It was determined that immediate action will be taken to remove the existing polycarbonate roofing and replace it with a safer metal roofing solution.

Actions to be undertaken include a structural assessment, cleanup operations, public safety measures, regular inspections, community communication, a review of roofing materials, an update of emergency protocols, and a feedback system for residents to report concerns.
